cherry blossoms

DCist was kind enough to feature one of my photos from the Cherry Blossom Festival, so I thought maybe I should, you know, actually get around to mentioning it in my own blog. I’ve been busy taking photos, so busy that I’ve not been very quick about posting them here.
Kimprobable, one of the DC flickr photo gang, suggested getting together on Saturday morning to catch sunrise photos of the cherry blossoms at the tidal basin. I’m a sucker for crazy ideas–it’s like they have a built-in double-dog dare–so I said what the hell and trekked out into DC at some godawful hour of the morning.
Apparently a gazillion other photography nuts all had the same idea. I’ve never seen so many photographers in one place, ever. I’m not talking about tourists with their point-and-shoot camreas. I’m talking hordes of people with tripods, multiple cameras slung over their shoulders, backpacks of gear riding their backs. It looks like the digital SLR thing has hit some sort of tipping point, or as Kim astutely pointed out, “man, I think I should buy some stock in Cannon.”
Was it worth the early wake up and crowds? I think so. You can see the collection of photos I shot on the morning walk here.
And for fun documentation…

Beautiful photos. Certainly worth the early rise.
